Craig County Deputy Passes Away from Feb. 22 Injuries

VINITA, Okla.—The Craig County Sheriff’s Office released the news this morning that 23-year-old deputy, Sean Cookson, badge number 9, yesterday succumbed to injuries he received in a Feb. 22, 2017, motor vehicle accident.

On Feb. 22, Cookson was traveling to a mandatory training class when his vehicle was involved in an accident.

Due to injuries sustained in the accident, he was flown to St. John’s hospital in Tulsa. Sean suffered a broken pelvis, femur, right arm, and two vertebrae in his back. His wife, Cassandra, an officer with the Adair (Okla.) Police Dept. received a broken arm and a fractured kneecap.

Sean passed away at St. John’s at 10:18 p.m., Feb. 27, 2017, surrounded by fellow law enforcement officers, his wife, and family members.

Funeral arrangements are pending. We will share them when released.
