In Memoriam: Silas Roy “Sarge” Bradshaw

WELCH—Silas Roy Bradshaw, who was known by everyone as S.R. or Sarge, passed away Mon., May 1, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. He was 76 years old. He was born Nov. 15, 1940, in Lebanon, Mo., to Arthur Elmer Bradshaw and Dorothy (McCormick) Bradshaw. He was a longtime resident of Welch.

S.R. was a longtime employee of the Bill Patch Coal Company, where he served in a supervisory capacity. After the coal mines shut down, S.R. drove tour buses, and later became a bus driver for Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami. He was a member of the Maybelle Baptist Church. He was retired from the Welch Volunteer Fire Department.

He was known for his love of fishing and hunting. But these things had to wait if his grandsons, Kenton and Kendal, had a ball game for him to attend. He was always at the games, offering coaching tips from his spot along the fence. A few years after his grandsons school sports ended because of graduation, Raleigh, his great granddaughter was born. When she got old enough to play sports, S.R. was always there to support her as well.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kathy Bradshaw; and a brother, Arthur Lee “Bull” Bradshaw.

He is survived by one son, Kenny Bradshaw and wife Kim of Welch; two grandsons, Kenton Bradshaw and wife Katie of Welch and Kendal Bradshaw of Claremore, Okla.; one great-granddaughter, Raleigh Bradshaw of Welch; one niece, Brooke Witham; one great-niece, Chelsea Witham; one great-great-niece, Avery Chenoweth; numerous cousins; and a host of very good friends.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thur., May 4, 2017, at the Welch Cemetery. Mike Harden will officiate.
